Hi! My name is Ellie.
I am an artist working in costume design and animation.
I grew up and currently live in the lovely city of Decatur, GA.
I just graduated in December 2022 from the University of Georgia with a BFA in Interdisciplinary Theater & Animation.
I have been making art for as long as I can remember. It’s the medium through which I learn about the world and the people around me, and how I process my experiences to come to new understandings. I strive to find a balance between craft and concept; I want my art to be impactful and meaningful as well as fun to look at.
My foundation is in drawing - like most artists it’s what I’ve been doing the longest. I would be a gallery artist if I could stand to work by myself all day, but I like working as part of a team, so I am pursuing both character design for animation and costume design. I’m attracted to both by a love of narrative. I believe that stories have an incredible power to open peoples’ minds and facilitate cultural change, and I want to be part of that.
I first started working with costumes in my Junior year of high school when I joined costume crew for Beauty and the Beast. The next year I was head of costumes for Into the Woods and Grease. My Sophomore year of college I was the costume designer for UGA’s Black Theatrical Ensemble in Blues for an Alabama Sky and Detroit ‘67. I started learning animation a few years ago, after a lifetime of nerding out over Studio Ghibli movies, the occasional Disney/Pixar/DreamWorks gem, Laika films, and animated kids’ tv shows. During Summer 2019, I formed an animation studio with three friends from high school called Snackcake Studios. We produced a short film called Cosmic Clash which won Best Animated Short Film in the Georgia Shorts Film Festival. In Fall 2021 I attended Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta and took classes in 2D animation and character design and storyboarding. I capped off my undergraduate degree with my senior thesis, in which I created character designs and costume designs for a script I co-wrote.
I am currently looking for work anywhere I can find it in the film and animation industries, preferably related to costume design or animation art.
