Undergraduate Thesis:

ABBA’S GOLEM

This project was designed to allow me to explore and compare my sister interests of character design and costume design. The characters come from a short film script I co-wrote titled Abba’s Golem. A post-apocalyptic judeo-fantasy story about an old Rabbi, his daughter, and their golem wandering through the wasteland in search of Jerusalem. The story is set in a version of the late 19th century. Jews practice magic as an integral part of their religious practice and peoplehood, while the rest of the world embraces technology and regards magic as primitive and backwards. The apocalypse began one year before the script starts, and came in the form of clouds of spores that cause everything they touch to rapidly decay. My goal with these designs was to create a fantastical Jewish aesthetic informed by thorough research and infused with magical and apocalyptic elements.

The project has four components: character designs, an animated screen test, costume designs, and swatch sheets.
